Set It Once: Global Automations That Always Have Your Back
Link to this headingWhat Are Global Automations?
We're excited to introduce Global Automations—your always-on helpers that apply to every single activity without conditions or exceptions.
Imagine finishing a ride and knowing the essentials are already handled: your favorite bike is assigned, the weather emoji is added to the title, and the activity is marked private. That's the power of global automations—set them once, and they work forever.

Global automations handle the repetitive tasks you never want to forget, letting you focus on what really matters—your training.
They help you:
- Stay consistent - Always assign the same gear, apply privacy settings, or add weather context
- Save time - No more manually editing every activity with the same changes
- Add personality - Weather emojis, motivational phrases, or custom templates appear automatically
- Keep it simple - Let your conditional automations handle special cases while globals cover the basics
- Never forget - The things you always do are now truly automatic

The magic happens automatically every time you upload an activity:
- Global automations run first - They're always at the top of your automation list and execute before anything else
- They always match - No conditions to check, no rules to meet. Every activity gets processed
- Actions apply immediately - Rename, add emojis, assign gear, toggle privacy—whatever you set up happens instantly
- Conditional rules layer on top - Your conditional automations still run after, adding their specific touches when conditions match
👉 Important: Global automations can't use the "Stop Automations" switch. They're designed to run first and let everything else continue—think of them as the foundation, not the final word.

Getting started takes less than a minute:
- Go to Automations - Navigate to your Activity Craft dashboard
- Create New - Click "New Automation" and select Global as the type
- Name it - Choose something descriptive like "Default Bike & Privacy" or "Weather Stamp"
- Add Actions - Pick the changes you want on every activity (no conditions needed!)
- Activate - Hit save and you're done. The automation turns on immediately and moves to the top of your list
Your next activity will automatically get processed with your new global automation.

Here are some popular uses:
- Weather Stamping - Add
[[weatherEmoji]]and[[temperature]]to every title automatically - Privacy by Default - Mark all activities private and assign your indoor bike
- Consistent Style - Add your favorite emoji prefix or signature phrase to descriptions
- Auto-Commute - Enable commute toggle and assign your commuter bike for every ride
The possibilities are endless—choose the actions that match your workflow.

Global automations set the foundation. Your conditional automations add the finishing touches.
For example:
- Global adds weather emoji to every title
- Conditional automation adds "🏃 Long Run" prefix when distance > 15km
- Final result: "🏃 Long Run ☀️ 20°C"
They work together perfectly. Globals handle what's always true, conditionals handle what's sometimes true.

Before your global automation touches real activities, test it in the Playground. Load a sample activity, run the test, and preview the results. Make adjustments until it looks perfect.

Do I need to add conditions?
No! That's what makes them global—they apply to everything automatically.
Can I create more than one?
Yes! Many users have separate globals for weather, privacy, gear, and branding.
Will they stop other automations?
Never. They always run first and always let conditionals continue after them.
What if they conflict with conditional rules?
No problem. Conditionals can override specific fields when their conditions match. Use this to your advantage.
